Feel. Bake. Better.
Emotional Baking
by myself garlic cheesy bread sticks.
It’s time for a fun night in, by myself, to do all the (dreamy) things. Yes! And with any night of indulgence - there must be snacks. I’m thinking of going heavy on the cheese and garlic! Perfect! I think I'll bake.
I'm feeling...
something that's a mood setter (think salty and gooey),
something that can do its thing in the background while I do mine,
something that smells so good it's hard to resist so you eat it while it's perfectly hot and melty,
something I can enjoy on a night in with no regrets...
TLDR:
  • I’m by myself
  • I’ll bake
  • Garlic Cheese Bread
  • Salty, Gooey, Melty
  • Irresistible
These bread sticks basically scream "stay in and enjoy yourself!"

Prep time: 25 minutes, Rest time: 1 hour and 20 minutes, Bake time: 30 minutes
Makes 1-8x8 pan
Ingredients
  • 1 tsp, heaped, active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup + 2 tbsp warm water
  • 1 ½ tbsp honey, warmed
  • 1 ¾ cups + 1 ½ tbsp (290 g) all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp coarse sea salt
Topping
  • 1 ½ tbsp (21 g) salted butter, melted
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp table salt
  • 1 cup (82 g) grated marble cheese
  • 2 tbsp powdered parmesan cheese
Instructions
Me time. Commence!
Line an 8x8 pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
Pour the warm water and honey into a large bowl. Stir in the yeast.
Slowly mix in the flour and salt and knead together until it becomes a rough mound. You can do this by hand or use a stand mixer.
You do you.
Continue to knead the dough for 5 minutes, on a floured surface, adding more flour as needed, until it appears smooth and well incorporated.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 40 minutes.
Let’s do something fun while I wait...
Press the dough into the loaf pan, cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 40 minutes.
...more time, yay!
Preheat the oven temperature to 375°F.
Mix the melted butter with the garlic powder and generously brush onto the bread. Sprinkle the marble cheese on top.
Yum, yum, yum.
Bake for 30 minutes on the lowest rack in the oven.
While the bread is still hot, brush with more of the garlic butter and sprinkle the salt and parmesan cheese.
Oh, the smell of cheese, garlic and butter in the air...mouthwatering.
Serve immediately.
Eating bread doused in cheese and garlic is why we're here and why we're loving life. Yes!!

Feel. Bake. Better.
It’s not just about baking something to get you through the day.
It’s not about eating the whole tray to feel better.
It’s about getting lost in the process.
It’s about enjoying every moment.
It’s about sharing it with people that support and care about you.
Baking can be a lot of things – it can be distracting but simple, it can be movement with focus, it can be whatever you need when you need it. Choose a recipe to fit the mood and it becomes a useful tool as well – baking to quiet the mind, to connect with your emotions, or simply baking to feel emotional. Just think of the feelings you get and the emotions you experience when baking your favourite dessert…. excitement, relief, fulfillment, joy, accomplishment.
At Emotional Baking, our recipes can be the starting point to somewhere - it can lead you to a place of great comfort, one that feels like the beginning of something, something good...
